It's supposedly a 3.5' floppy head cleaning disk for DOS and Windows, but not the kind I'm used to using. You must find a good floppy in the batch (or have one) which then you can make a system disk from Windows. I can say for sure that it doesn't have any floppy drive controlling magic in it that could be doing something weird. You need the bad floppys you want to fix. I did take a look at the files using Ghidra to decompile them, and well, I'm no expert at that either, but it really doesn't look like it's doing much aside from displaying images, video, and playing audio, as well as keeping track of time. As Victor mentioned, I think it may genuinely be a "placebo" cleaning disk supplied by TEAC for a specific drive, as they note this in a manual found here: Īnd frankly, I could totally see some office having a policy of cleaning their floppy drives monthly or something, and if you have a design like that one, where it's quite possible that a real cleaning head would properly damage the head (I'm no expert on floppy drives, but I think due to the way the head is tensioned, it would be damaged by repeated use of a proper dry cleaner.), So what do you do, then, companies want a cleaning disk, you don't want it to cause it to fail, and so you supply it with one that does nothing but show a picture, so the box can be checked by IT or management or whatever.
